Why Use Content Management?

Content Management refers to the storing, controlling, versioning, and publishing industry-specific documentation such as news articles, operator manuals, technical manuals, sales guides, and marketing brochures; within a user interface. We use something which is called a Content Management Framework (CMF) in the industry, it's a framework rather than a Content Management System (CMS) which can be best described as a skeleton that can be built upon, to create your own Content Management System.

A framework is the bare-bones and we build upon this structure to create a flexible, robust, highly customisable and secure environment for your web site to be housed in. There is very little need to access the web server directly through File Transfer Protocol (FTP) clients which increases the potential usability for the client.

A Content Management System (CMS) is some what different from a Framework, much of a CMS is hard-coded, reliant on other specific files and permissions which can be troublesome and cumbersome when trying to extend the use or tailor a site to the clients requirements. Our preferred choice is to use a CMF over a CMS as this gives both the client and us the ability to create, develop better web applications and web sites with less time and stress.

Content Management Systems (CMS) and Frameworks (CMF) have become very powerful and enhance the usability of web sites enormously. Fast deployment of updates, pages and news is what every web developer and designer wishes so why not give this power to the client? We firmly believe in empowering the client to update their own site, when they wish to.

This will take out the expense of hiring a developer for relatively straight forward task such as adding images to a gallery or a small piece of text on an existing page. All this is achievable for the novice to the most advanced user.

We have built up a system that allows the client to take control via some simplified editing tools that are accessible in the web browser. There is no need to delve in to the world of XHTML and PHP coding for simple updates with our integrated editing functions.

You may be wondering why many developers do not do this... there is good reason. It's easy to bring a site down with miss-management and bad coding. Generally speaking, it is best to have a professional take care of a web site or at least have some basic knowledge of your own. There is a "BUT", we offer you the ability to take control of your site, depending on your ability. We can have your site setup that allows basic editing such as the title, the content in the main body and any images that need uploaded to a gallery. This may require extensive development if you require customised options to be editable.
